i just wanted to know whether dell ramro ki compaq
Unfortunately the answer is "It depends"
I being a loyal dell user since many years wouldnt hesitate to say go for dell but to be honest i've used compaq for a year and it does a preety good job. Here are few thing that you would like to consider.
1. Dell has exceptional costumer service if you buy enhanced costumer support or what have you.. then you would never waste time trying to resolve the problem by yourself.
2. Years back dell was not assembled as properly as compaq (remember the sony battery recall by dell) was but but in recents years dell has grown a lot and now with systems like Vostro and Insprion you are going to get the best out of the machine you won, for instance take it like this you are comparing ford with nissan...(but dont get into this example solely its just to give you some sense of what i'm trying to say)
3.For affordibility i would go for dell, but if you want relialibility go for compaq.
Final advice if you are considering compaq then check out TOSHIBA. If you are willing to spend atleast 1k and up then you get a very good system. Once again someone might be able to give you more rigid answer and take their advice into your consideration.
Good Luck

Never bought compaq .... so cannot say if it is good or bad. Have dell desktop and laptop ... both works just perfect for me :)
Have used both for the same porpose. I prefer Dell.

Compaq is better than Dell. Remember that HP manufactures Compaq and they have wonderful customer support, easy to navigate support site, and build in HP Help and Support. Not only that the quality of product that they use is better than Dell. Dell breaks a lot, Compaq doesn't.

Dell?
For me, right now, this D620 I bought last year--the screen is flickering for last 2 weeks. I have to pat the screen few times to set it right. But it is getting worse..
The battery time was disappointment from very beginning. Now it lasts less than 20 minutes.
Forget using it anywhere near sunlight. So no coffee shop.
My only hope is the 3 year warrantly it came with. I'm desperately trying to find that out what that means!

it got posted thrice just because the screen kept on flickering..
Dell Is better then that scumpack. I have experience of both computer, and I have experinced nothing but problems very often with compaq (Scum-pack).
I have been using one of my dell Laptop as a server for 2 years now and that this running 24 hours a day and I can tell you it has been keeping up. And I have never experinced any problem with it.
Not all dell are equally good but The one I have i really hev been happy with it.

Regarding battery, all brands are the same.
Dell beats compaq for no 1 ranking

That was six years ago. HP is the number one computer manufacturer these days. Just check out their market value if you don't believe it. By the way, I have had experience working with most of these computers (servers, workstations, and laptops) from DELL, HP, Compaq, IBM, and SUN with most of the OSs (Windows VISTA, XP, Longhorn, SLES, SLED, RHEL (Server and Workstations), Fedora, Novell Netware, HP-UX), and HP and COMPAQ products are the best for all of these OSs.
Truly, its like comparing between google and yahoo, which one is the best search engine? It all depends on what you are looking for, but overall, google is more reliable than yahoo. Here, you are comparing between two different companies products, and it all depends on what you are looking for. HP is double the size of Dell and have more people working for them, and it means that HP has better support service. Other than that, they both use same thing, They both have their own motherboard and BIOS, Intel or AMD processor, Intel or Broadcom network card, ATI or nVidia graphics card.
My best suggestion is build your laptop in mind, know what you want, and go for the one that fulfills most of your requirements in lowest price and highest support service.
Good luck...
My experience on Dell:
+ Cheap
+ Good speakers, CD/DVD drivers and accessaries..
- Heating (After one year, it is viturally unusable - you need cooler fan)
- Heavy
- Low battery time
Not used compaq (Instead HP is far better.. )
